An analog nomad, a digital sedentary.
They say bipolar, even semi-autistic.
I just mix the time preferences.
I aim to prove knowledge outweighs capital.
Giovanni LPY: an analog nomad
Giovanni LPY is my legal name (with the last name abbreviated for privacy) I shared for 20 years as a professional sailor.
Analog nomad because I sailed about 10K nautical miles across 3 continents.
Learntheropes: a digital sedentary
Learntheropes is the alias I chose when I discovered Bitcoin and in 6 months I left the ocean to sit in front of a laptop learning how to install Linux with full disk encryption and start working for one of the very first startups in this industry as an experiment granted by the founders given my almost non-existent IT experience in exchange for my promise that I would learn everything very quickly.
Digital sedentary because I moved my laptop, my suitcase and myself just twice to two different locations since the alias exists and took just one flight per year to visit my family for Christmas. Apart from that, I don't like to move from my new hometown.
Giovanni (learntheropes) LPY: all in one
"Learn the ropes" means to understand the basic skills, procedures, and essential workings of a new job, task, or activity. It refers to becoming familiar with how things work, often during an initial training or orientation period. The idiom stems from 17th-century sailing, where new sailors had to master rigging ropes.
I know I was going to be what I'm today, a practising believer in LatAm, since June 22nd 1986. In a UK college, where my mum was forcing me to study the, by me hated, English, I was placed in a separate room from the native British. There I watched stealing a goal and scoring the best goal in the history in less than 5 minutes by the legend of football against one of the latest practical examples of the modern colonialist.
A believer of the iglesia maradoniana and I live in Paraguay after 3 years in Argentina as a clandestino. Because, you know, in Italy we grow up thinking that Latin America is Argentina only and my home town friends still think I'm in Uruguay, mixing it with Paraguay.
Practising believer in the sense that I've absorbed almost everything from D10S. I'm an anti-gringo, self-centred, narcissistic, individualistic rebel with a huge heart for my neighbour. I'm able to do excellent things and be a bandito at the same time, loving my family but in practice having given them plenty of disappointments. Very addicted to a few vices, some green, some nocturnal. The globally much loved Low Time Preference concept in Bitcoin is the hardest one for me and I'm on it for the technology and the philosophy.
Progressive ancap bitcoiner
I grew up comfortably in a socialist community even if the anarchist, in a leftist sense, attitude brought me to sail the ocean where you almost only follow the rules of nature and not the nonsense imposed by an illegal self-proclaimed regulator.
Then I discovered Bitcoin and with it, the cypherpunks, the Austrian Economics, the libertarians. I drastically changed my economics views, or better, I started to have some economic views, because I was ignoring the Keynesian one completely considering it not rational.
But my social progressive views, or my support for Negative rights, are still strong in me.
Bitcoiner because to me that is the only hard money vs crypto that is nothing else than a new version of fiat stealing, starting from the name stolen from cryptography, ending with the infinite emission of infinite blockchains with infinite tokens. Still there are some practical use cases for a blockchain, namely the stablecoin. It helps you move money without the control of the state, the bank, and of Paolo Ardoino (as long as you are not committing a huge crime), and in some developing countries it allows a store of value time frame of maybe 3-6 months with USDT instead of 4-5 years with BTC — which better adapts to their real needs.
Overall, to me the blockchain is more a payment technology than a saving technology, especially in a world where most of the population still needs a value to store before needing the store of value.
You may now understand that even if I consider myself a Bitcoiner, I have quite a conflictive relation with most of the Maxis and that to me the Maradonian Church is less ridiculous than the near-religious 21-million numerology of some Maxis.
